On our second day in New Zealand, we were able to see some glow worm caves. I wasn't allowed to take any pictures inside the cave. We went to the caves before going to Hobbiton. Once we got the tickets to go inside, we had to wait for a couple minutes. Once our group was called, we had to get in a line.
A few minutes later, the tour guide introduced himself when we were at the entrance of the cave. He gave us some rules. Don't touch the caves and don't take pictures. They were pretty simple rules. We also had to be quiet, because the caves were fragile.
We walked through the cave for about an hour. When we got deeper, we were able to see some Glow Worms below our feet in a small cave. We had to bend down if we wanted to see them. When we were halfway through, our tour guide, told us how the cave takes sound. He told us that every time he did the tour, he had to tell someone to sing, so we can see how it works. No one really wanted to sing, so our tour guide kept on talking to us. He said that when the caves first opened, it would be normal for people to sing, because they would have conversations with each other. Back then, we didn't have electronics, and things were easier, social wise. The things he said were sadly true, but that's just who we are now.
There was another group behind us, and someone sang. The tour guide looked back and tried to figure out what song the person was saying. He said that the person was singing a Maori song. He jokingly said it was horrible and we laughed.
As we got deeper into the cave, it got colder, but it felt good. At least it wasn't freezing cold.
We arrived to a little area where there were some boats. It was kind of dark, so it was a little hard to see, but there were some lights and the person who was going to guide us had a light so we can easily get in the boat. The three of us were able to get in the same boat together, but it was a little cramped. We were told to be quiet, so we didn't talk. The person who guided us, stood the entire time, and as she guided us through the Glow worm caves, she had to hold onto some ropes that were attached to the cave, which helped guide the boat through the cave.
This was when we were about to enter the cave. The cave wasn't small and there was enough room. It felt as if you were on a Disney ride. It felt so unreal as the Glow Worms could be seen. They looked like little light blue led lights close together. Sometimes they looked like stars when you had to look up and if they were very close together.
